Day 188 – Late autumn

In the past few weeks I have stopped posting constantly my everyday photos, but I have managed to take a photo everyday to continue the project but without posting them. There are lot of reasons why I couldn’t do that mostly involving work and some health issues. I won’t go into details, but I hope that now the things will go back the way they were before since I have uploaded in batches the missing pieces. I feel that I have somehow cheated the project, but sometimes in life things show up and you have to prioritise on the fly and this is what I did. Also, my blog has some authentication problems which I need to fix, but I will update the flickr stream until it gets fixed. The next period will be busy too, but I will make more time for photography, and specially editing. Actually I am starting a PS course next week, and I hope won’t take long until my photos will be better processed.
Going back to the today’s story, I tried to make it very close to how I see the atmosphere right now: late autumn, foggy, and deserted.

See you tomorrow!

Day 20 – Busy bee

I can’t believe it’s been 20 days since I have started the project. 20 hard days of getting outside the comfort zone and start shooting everyday, finding a possible subject for the photo of the day. Sometimes it’s easy, sometimes it’s hard. There are days where inspiration is hard to find but many times the subject is sitting in front of you, you just have to look closer. I fell that it’s starting to become a habit to have your camera with you all the time and to try and see a possible frame in the surroundings. Today was a day where I got out and had no idea what to do, but it was in front of me all the time. I wanted to take a picture of a flower, that was in my mind and here it was, buzzing around. A little bee that was working hard for the hive.

See you tomorrow!

Day 7 – River valley

Today I continued travelling in the Valcea county with my girlfriend and her brother, more exactly at Olanesti. Olanesti is a mountain resort with many springs that are known for curing various diseases and many people come here to use the water for it’s curing abilities. Going uphill, we stopped in an isolated place where we could go near the river that crossed the station and we could take a little bath, at least with our feet. The water was very refreshing and I had the opportunity to take some pretty cool pictures with the river, the valley and the trees. The 10-22mm lens on my Canon helped a lot with the wide angle view, but an ND filter would have helped more with the river flow effect.

Day 6 – Finding the peace

Today was a travel day. I arrived high in the mountains, at the Arnota Monastery in Valcea county. You have to travel 30 minutes off road by car to reach it. This monastery is very old and holds the remaining of an old voivode Matei Basarab. It is said that he took refuge there from the turks who followed him. Since hiding there saved his life, he decided to build a monastery to thank God for saving his life. Going back to the picture, is a good place for people to meditate and contemplate since it’s on top of the mountain and the large overview of the valley gives you a felling of peace.

Can’t wait to share with you tomorrow another story!

Day 5 – After the rain

Today was a rainy day. Since I had to go back to the countryside for family reasons, I spent most of the time in the house. Luckily, in the evening the rain stopped, the sun appeared between the clouds and over the hills the fog started to raise. The view was beautiful and the air smelled nice and clean.

See you tomorrow!

Day 2 – The Goat Herder

day - 002

Just made it through the second day. Since I am still at the countryside with my family, we had a long day by visiting the surroundings. We started with the village, and then walked along the river that crosses it. The landscape is beautiful, and also the local people. At one moment, we spotted a goatherd and say hello to him. He replied, and asked for a cigar. My uncle offered him one and also a lighter. We were surprised when he told us that he didn’t want to smoke it right away. “The day is long” he said. This made me think that what he said was very representative of his way of life and that everything which many consider to be insignifiant, for him is very valuable.

We continued our journey and on the way back there he was, taking care of his goats. See you tomorrow!
