Day 133 – Scrambled

133 days and counting. It got in my system. I’m still sad that the project isn’t going exactly in the direction I wanted it to be, but it’s not far. I have some personal things that I have to take car of and they need a lot of time to be taken care of so I had to prioritise.
Today, when I was preparing for getting home this red light hit my eyes. It was the sun setting and it was reflected from the other building. The light was so warm that I had to take the shot. It’s just another way to look at the sunset.
Nite nite!

Day 45 – Storm is coming

As I mentioned in my previous posts, this was a really long rainy season and today was not different. Today was a team building event in my company and we decided to go near Bucharest on a lakeside (Snagov) and have a picnic there. Me and two other colleagues brought our bikes to take a tour around the lake. The weather was promising and we started our journey around the lake but at some point we arrived on a more opened space near on bridge. Then we saw the rain clouds and that was the moment when we decided to go back. It was an inspired move because as soon as we got back it started to rain.
Tomorrow I hope I get to my hometown and maybe come back with some landscape shots but again, all depends on the weather.

See you!

Day 43 – We all age sometime

Time passes by so fast around us that you don’t realise when you got so old. Maybe I am a little nostalgic since in two weeks I will be 27 and boy… this is a long time. Speaking of time, today I wanted to do more street photography and of course I couldn’t find any subject that pleased me. So I decided to sit on a bench near a fountain downtown and observed the people passing by. I spend almost an hour or so having my camera on my lap and pressed the shutter from time to time when I considered to do so. Almost every frame that I took wasn’t good enough until an old man stopped near the fountain. He looked tired and sad and just by looking on his face expression you could see his story. And this was the moment when I shot the 43.

See you tomorrow!

Day 42 – Need more drama

On the last year or so I focused more on how to get better pictures on my camera and I can say that I improved a lot. But, it is not enough. Processing is very important to photography and maybe more important in some cases than the original shot. It will get you to the point where you are really expressing what you saw, felt when you took that picture. You can add drama or you can get a more relaxed approach. So I in the near future I intend get more in depth of processing side of photography.

Have a good light!

Day 40 – Balalaika

I found this instrument in an antiquity market in the city on a photo walk with a friend of mine.
It sounds very funny in english. Usually, the balalaika is a Russian folk stringed musical instrument with a triangular body. This one is square, but it seems that is originally from Austria so maybe this is a deviation from the original triangular one. Anyway, the man who was selling it told me that it dates the 19th century so that’s a long time. I can’t imagine how many places it have seen, have been played to and by how many people. It have survived many wars, including two world wars and it still looks intact.

Day 39 – Remember the old times?

Going digital was a major step for photography. Now almost everybody has a camera, even if it’s a professional DSLR compact or in the phone. Many of us use them, and we quickly forgot how is to shoot film. The benefit of digital is obvious and I won’t start listing the reasons why, but film gives you that old good feeling about the past and you suddenly start recollecting good old memories. This is one of my family’s diapositives with a picture of me when I was a kid. I think it is taken at my countryside when I was 3 by my father.

See you tomorrow!

Day 38 – Distorted reality

Today I played with Fuji X100s, the new camera with fixed lens from Fuji. The equivalent of the lens is 35mm on full frame. It is a jewellery for the connoisseurs. Is fast, discrete, sharp, retro and it will put a smile on your face instantly. The picture is shot in front of the f64‘s store, the most popular photography store in Romania, and they were very kind to let me play with x100s outside the store.

See you tomorrow!

Day 37 – The man and the dog

Again, street photography. Or neighbourhood photography or just snapshots. It’s getting harder and harder to find good subjects, and I intend that I will control more the environment. This means more in house work or studio work (which I don’t have). These two are very different approaches. In the first mostly you have to walk and be alert all the time in order to catch your subject and in the second one you control the photograph by knowing exactly what you want to achieve from the beginning, you just have to concentrate for the details, composition, background, etc.

See you!

Day 36 – Follow the lines

I snapped this photo on a late walk in the city. The streets weren’t crowded, but once in a while you can see cyclists speeding on the road. Oh, and if you don’t know where you’re heading, just follow the lines. They should lead you somewhere.

Nite nite!

Day 34 – Reflections of the past

This week started with rain and it seems that it will end again with rain. But in the afternoon, the rain stopped and the sun came out. Today I stopped near the “Memorial of rebirth” according to google translate. It is a monument for the people who died in the 1989 revolution who freed us from comunism. It’s architecture is a little odd and most people compare it with a potato. Since it rained, many ponds appeared and I could play with reflections. So here it is, day 34.

See you on 35!
